Our foray into world travel began in the past year, first with my business trip to Belgium in December 2009, and my daughter's culinary tour of France in January 2010. We hope to cover other parts of the planet in future trips, but on these first trips we both enjoyed being exposed to different cuisines and an entirely different "vibe" than what we're accustomed to in the United States. The family loved Belgian chocolates, but I found that I had no competition for the French "pastis" or anise-based liquor my daughter brought back for me.
