Thanks to John and Carrie Fontaine for sharing these pictures of their recent trip to the Galapagos Islands.
Carrie writes about their experience:
The ship we were on was small; it held only 48 passengers (plus 30-some crew) including three naturalists who led us on walks and "expeditions" on the islands. The daily explorations were full of informative lectures and the small size of the groups made for a very personal experience. The accommodations were exceptional and each cabin was very comfortable. There was a lounge area and dining room where they served us delicious meals. We were on the ship for 6 nights and explored the islands during the day. The ship moved from place to place usually during the night or during meals.
We saw so much wildlife up close...giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies, nazca boobies, sea lions, iguanas, sea turtles...and we were also fortunate enough to spot some whales which was really amazing. The naturalists got so excited they had the captain turn the ship around and we all stood on the bow to watch for them to surface again. It was exciting to travel with and learn from people who were so passionate about what they do.
I took photos with a disposable underwater camera when we went snorkeling. That was my favorite part of the trip...fish and penguins and sea lions would swim by you so close it felt like you could reach out and touch them! The sea lions were playful and curious about us, and would come right up to you underwater. Amazing!
